Frequently Asked Questions

Your questions answered

What is counselling?

Counselling is a talking therapy that is facilitated by a trained therapist, who will listen to you and help you to deal with emotional issues and other issues within your life that you may be dealing with, that may be difficult or painful to deal with alone. Counselling can empower you and help you build confidence and resilience. Counselling is a safe place where you can share your true feelings, thoughts and ideas and not be judged.

How can counselling help me?

Counselling provides a safe space to explore issues that you may be going through or have gone through. You may need someone to talk to who is neutral and not a family member or friend.
Counselling can help you gain a greater understanding and more awareness to be able to find ways that can help you cope and the ability to move forward. This can help with your motivation and help build resilience to be able to manage with stressful situations.

How many sessions will I have?

The amount of sessions you will have is something that we can discuss and can be tailored to your needs and what you want to work on. I offer short term therapy or long term therapy. It is a good idea to start with 6 sessions and review to see how therapy is going for you and to assess properly how many sessions would beneficial for you.

What happens when I contact you?

When you contact me, we will discuss what you would like from therapy and if my service is a match for you, we will then book an initial session where we can discuss your needs further.

What happens in the first session?

The first session is for us to get to know one another and for me to understand you better. I will ask you about what has brought you to therapy and what you would like to gain from having therapy. You will be able to begin to go into detail of the things you may have spoken about in your introductory session.

What are your fees?

Sessions are £60 for a 50 minute session.

Limited concession/reduced fee spaces are available for those on a low income or who are unemployed. If this is something you would like. Please contact me to discuss this further.

How do I pay?

You can pay by bank transfer or via a payment link.

Can I go on holiday, take a break or cancel a session?

Yes, I will need at least 48 hours notice or the full fee will be required. If sessions are repeatedly cancelled, we may have to terminate our work together.

How soon can I start?

We can start when it is convenient for both of us. If there is availability this could be within 48 hours.

How do I end therapy?

When you feel you would like to end therapy you can tell me in session or by email so we can plan the ending, as an abrupt end can disrupt the therapeutic process. It also enables therapy to end as gently as possible. We will be able to create a plan to support you beyond therapy.

If you have booked a block of 6 sessions, the final session of the block can be the end as it will be a review session.
